What California poppy is
Eschscholzia californica is a flowering plant native to the western United States. Herbal preparations have traditionally been used for calming and sleep-related purposes.
What has been studied
California poppy contains alkaloids including protopine and related compounds. Much of the mechanistic literature is laboratory or animal work rather than large human clinical trials.
Drug-interaction considerations
An in-vitro study found that certain California poppy extracts and alkaloids affected several CYP drug-metabolizing enzymes. Laboratory findings do not predict every real-world interaction, but they support caution when combining botanicals with medications.
What this means for Nerve Fresh
The label confirms a whole-plant extract, but it does not provide alkaloid standardization. The ingredient should not be used as proof that the full Nerve Fresh formula treats nerve pain or sleep disturbance.
Evidence limits
Even when an ingredient has promising research, that does not establish the effectiveness of Nerve Fresh as a complete formula. Form, dose, standardization and the studied health outcome all matter.
